Remember Homefront guys? That Red Dawn-esque shooter from THQ and KAOS? Well, KAOS was shut down recently and the promising Homefront IP thought to be dead. Homefront sold well but review scores were on the lower end, unfortunately for KAOS.
There have been some new developments in the THQ camp. Today we received word that Crytek, developer of Far Cry and Crysis will be taking on the universe and create a sequel in the near future, we are talking 2013/14.

THQ AND CRYTEK COLLABORATE TO DEVELOP NEXT
HOMEFRONT TITLE
Legendary FPS Developer Set To Take THQ's Successful Original IP
To New Heights
AGOURA HILLS, Calif., September 20, 2011 - THQ Inc., (NASDAQ: THQI) today announced that the next title in its Homefront® franchise will be developed by multi-award winning FPS veterans Crytek.
"Selecting Crytek to take Homefront forward underscores our strategy of working with the industry's best talent," said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. "Homefront's unique setting and storyline captivated gamers the world over. With Crytek's industry leading technology and legendary experience in the FPS genre, we're supremely confident that the next Homefront will deliver that AAA-quality experience that players demand."
"We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ," said Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek. "We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It's really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way."
The first Homefront title was released in March 2011, and proved to be a commercial success for THQ. The yet-to-be-named sequel is scheduled for release in THQ's fiscal year 2014 on console and PC platforms.
About Homefront
The year is 2027. The world as we know it is unraveling after fifteen years of economic meltdown and widespread global conflict over dwindling natural resources.
A once proud America has fallen, her infrastructure shattered and military in disarray. Crippled by a devastating EMP strike the USA is powerless to resist the ever expanding occupation of a savage, nuclear armed Greater Korean Republic.
Abandoned by her former allies, the United States is a bleak landscape of walled towns and abandoned suburbs. This is a police state where high school stadiums have become detention centers, and shopping malls shelter armored attack vehicles. A once-free people are now prisoners ... or collaborators ... or revolutionaries.
Meanwhile, the splintered nations of Europe struggle to maintain peace at home, as the global economy continues its downward spiral, and civil order disintegrates. The world is teetering on the brink of ruin ...

I love these rumors, I really do. Especially when they revolve around new console hardware.
As if it was a scripted response from Microsoft to combat the Nintendo Wii U hype. Today Videogamer.com ran a story that rumors a new Xbox console being launched in 2012 and revealed at E3 that year.
The reason for the rumor is Crysis developer Crytek. The studio ran some demos behind closed doors at E3 last week talking about TimeSplitters 4 which is being developed for the Xbox follow up.
The rumored console will be running Direct X 11 but specifics have not been nailed down just yet according to the sources.
TimeSplitters 4 will run on CryEngine 3 and currently is only confirmed for the next gen Xbox, however Crytek will be investing into next gen PlayStation development also.
What is your take on this? Will Microsoft launch a console in 2012 and take the wind out of Nintendo's and Sony's sails? Are you ready for Xbox 720? NextBox?

Ever since Crysis 2 was announced for all three HD platforms, the press and fans alike, have been speculating about the quality of the game across PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. While the PC version has been shown to press and gamers everywhere played the Xbox 360 Multiplayer Beta, no one really saw the PS3 version running.
Today Crytek is showing off a pure gameplay video of the title running on PS3. The level shown here is called “Semper Fi or Die.”

Electronic Arts and Crytek have just put out a brand new trailer for Crysis 2 today featuring the multiplayer leveling up system, perks, and most importantly the Nanosuit. You can check the awesomeness out below!

We have been playing the Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo a Lot lately and are looking forward to the full release on March 22nd. EA has dropped the 'Be Strong' trailer in our mailbox, so get ready to watch it.
Crysis 2 has been in development for a while now and Crytek has done a lot of work to create a great shooter experience which builds on CryEngine 3. Here is a new multiplayer trailer to show off what you can expect from EA's latest shooter.

Yes, Crysis 2 has been delayed to March 2011 but that does not mean we won't get to at least 'see' the game. EA and Crytek showed off
some damn good looking multiplyer footage at gamescom this week. The clip displays the level 'Rooftops' and presents some fine looking
verticality along with clogue and other abilities. 'Be the weapon' is the motto here. The footage shows fast paced gameplay involving the nano suit capabilities which look very fun to use. Players will be getting points for kills which presumably will be used for upgrades as in MW2. The clip also reveals that there will be 6 modes, 12 NYC locations, 80 ranks and 60 nano suit upgrades. Take a look.

The guys over at 1Up and Gamevideos posted an off screen capture of CryTek's latest engine running the sequel to the PC only blockbuster of past years. Crysis 2 is shown off with different environments, lighting effects, hit detection and facial animation. The game was sampled in a compilation video providing a nice comparison of PC and console footage all designed and run on CryEngine 3.
