That lovely new game smell

We as gamers try not to avoid the luxuries of the smaller things in the gaming world. Like the little gesture we take before we throw the new disc in the tray or slot. Some may call it hardcore, nerdy, and disgusting. We have all enjoyed the new game smell as you crack open the case to one of the years many blockbuster titles.

It was Gears of War 3 for me and I thought not many people have talked about this little gesture that troves of gamers do on release nights on there way home for Gamestop or sitting on there couch as they rip the clear plastic of the case. Many people have even done this as its catching on. I recently saw a unboxing video of Gears Of War 3 with Ice-T on youtube. As I sat there and watched wishing I had a replica Lancer that he unboxed also. I watched him open the case to the game and take a smell. I Laughed uncontrollably and said to myself "Oh my god! Ice-T even enjoys the new game smell!"

From there I set out on a mission to find out the origin of the new game smell gesture. I found only one video on youtube were some gamer sniffers found a new Assassins Creed Brotherhood game and he found the game smelling great! He had even made reference saying I hope it doesn't die soon. I also found many forum postings related to this issue and almost all of the posts in reply were that they loved the smell and it was highly addicting. Was I onto a major lead for a pandemic that has taken over the world and even major celebrities?
Although I never found the true origin of new game smelling. I admit that I have been sniffing new games since the SNES. I loved the cartridge smell but disc formats are the best. For every new game that comes my way and to many gamers around the world. The nose is a very powerful weapon. The game companies must find a way to trap that aroma in the case. They possibly would have a hook to keep us into a crappy title.

In closing, I must say that this gesture is nothing that will damage humanity in the universe. It is very nice to know that I'm not the only new game sniffer in the world.
